⭕What do you know about torticollis???
This is said to be a Torticollis which affect the infant. Torticollis affect adults too but mostly affect infants.
Infantile torticollis can affect infants from birth and after birth.
It occurs when one of the sternocleidomastoid muscles of the neck gets contracted and becomes very shortened or tight. When this occurs, the part of the neck affected becomes flexed and the chin rotates to the contralateral side.
Torticollis is very painful and your baby may cry unstoppably. Parents can spot torticollis based on some presentation their baby may show. Babies with torticollis prefer one breast to the other, have tighten sternocleidomastoid muscle, have lumps develop on the neck, burst into cry in an attempt to turn the head, especially when the movement will stretch the tight side.
As the condition causes that discomfort to your baby, parents may want to seek appropriate health intervention to help their baby. It is however important to seek the intervention of a medical doctor and the doctor will rule out any underlying condition, give appropriate drugs and refer to physiotherapy.
As a matter of fact, there is not actual cause of torticollis identified, yet a lot of identifiable risk factors can contribute to the etiology and there are many types of torticollis too but this document will not talk about those things for now. The most important thing is for readers to know that such condition exist and the necessary action to take.
Torticollis can cause musculoskeletal condition such as scoliosis to your baby should it not been treated earlier. It is therefore important for parents to seek medical attention as soon as possible. It is very important to seek medical attention since tumor can cause the condition. Aside this fatal condition, babies with skeletal abnormalities can develop torticollis and should go through proper diagnosis before treatment.
